What Are Dental Implants?
Dental implants consist of a titanium post that is surgically inserted into the jaw. An abutment is placed on top of the post, which will connect it to a dental restoration (e.g., crown). The titanium implant post fuses with the jawbone, ensuring a secure fit. TO allow for this process to take place, the permanent crown may not be cemented into place immediately. Dental implants can be used to replace one tooth (with a dental crown), several teeth (with a dental bridge, several crowns or partial denture), or all teeth (full dentures). An implant-supported bridge replaces the missing teeth and some of the tooth roots. Unlike traditional bridges, an implant-supported bridge does not need support from the teeth surrounding the gap. An implant-supported denture can replace the missing teeth and some of the tooth roots. Unlike dentures, dental implants are not removable. This means you can bite, chew, speak and smile more comfortably and without worrying about your teeth slipping out. Our dentists can recommend the best implant type for you based on your specific case.Dental Implant Benefits
There are many benefits to dental implants. Dental implants are uniquely crafted to match your surrounding teeth so they look natural. With a full set of healthy teeth, you can smile and speak without worrying about noticeable gaps between your teeth. Dental implants also help you maintain a youthful appearance as they prevent the jaw bone from shrinking and the facial structures from collapsing. Implants restore the ability to chew properly so you can enjoy your favorite foods. Filling in the gaps with dental implants also prevents the surrounding teeth from drifting into space. Health wise, implants are a great choice as gaps and missing teeth can increase the risk of gum disease and other dental issues.Understanding the Implant Placement Process
The dental implant placement process typically takes two appointments. In your first visit, your dentist will examine your teeth, mouth and gums to determine the number and location of implants needed to restore your smile. We will take impressions and measurements of your teeth to determine the best location for your new tooth or teeth. Your implant prosthesis, e.g. crown, bridge or dentures, will be made to match the size, shape and color of your natural teeth. In the meantime, we may place a temporary restoration or more if several teeth are being replaced. In order to ensure a secure fit, the post must be given sufficient time to fuse with the jawbone. This process, called osseointegration, takes several months. Once your jawbone is fully healed and the implant has fused properly, you will return to our office to have your permanent restoration placed. Before you leave, we will check your bite to make sure the restorations are the right fit. With proper oral hygiene, your dental implants can last for many years, possibly a lifetime. Regular checkups with our team are essential to ensure your implants and teeth are healthy and functioning properly. Why Choose Our Implant Specialists?
