Orthodontics & Invisalign

Women comparing a retainer vs invisalignThere are many benefits to a straight and even smile. Straight teeth are easier to clean and keep healthy. Everyday activities like eating, chewing and speaking are also easier. Not to mention, straight and uniform teeth are attractive and can boost one’s self-confidence and willingness to smile.

There’s no reason to let crooked or uneven teeth affect your health or your smile. At Cobblestone Park Dentistry, we specialize in helping patients straighten their teeth to create strong, seamless smiles. We are pleased to offer an array of orthodontic options to address the unique needs of our patients — young and old. Orthodontic treatments are carefully planned and executed to ensure each patient achieves a strong, durable and natural-looking smile.

Traditional Orthodontics

We offer traditional metal braces that consist of metal wires and brackets. Braces can correct mild to severe orthodontic issues including:

  • Gaps or spaces between teeth
  • Crowded teeth
  • Crooked or misaligned teeth
  • Open bite (if the upper and lower teeth don’t touch when the mouth is closed)
  • Overbite or underbite

Braces are fixed in the mouth, and periodically tightened so that they can gradually shift teeth into the desire position. They are worn 24/7 for up to two years, depending on the correction needed.

Invisalign

Invisalign is a modern teeth straightening alternative to conspicuous metal braces. Consisting of a series of clear, removable plastic aligners, Invisalign gradually shifts teeth into the desired position. Ideal candidates for Invisalign are individuals with minor problems relating to positioning, alignment and spacing of teeth. Invisalign can help with the following:

  • Gaps between teeth
  • Crowded teeth
  • Over bite (when the upper teeth bite over the lower teeth)
  • Crossbite (when the upper and lower jaws are misaligned)

Candidacy for Invisalign is determined on a case-by-case basis. If Invisalign is not right for you, our team can suggest another orthodontic option.

How Does Invisalign Work?

Treatment with Invisalign can last anywhere from six month to two years, depending on the severity of each case. Aligners are created using information gleaned by taking impressions of the patient’s teeth as well as other information collected by our team. You will wear one set of aligners for two weeks as they work to incrementally move your teeth to the desired position. Every two weeks, you will replace your aligners with a new set.

You should wear your aligners for at least 22 hours a day, removing them only for eating, drinking and cleaning. Treatment with Invisalign is not painful, although you may feel some slight pressure every time you wear a new set of aligners. Many patients heavily favor Invisalign over traditional orthodontics because of their discreet design, comfort and low maintenance.

Invisalign Teen

We offer Invisalign and Invisalign Teen, the latter of which comes with six replacement aligners in case a few go missing during treatment. Invisalign Teen also offers a special feature that guides erupting second molars into position without affecting the alignment of other teeth.
